Emsworth in Bloom

About Emsworth in Bloom

Emsworth in Bloom was started in 2015, like many other boroughs, towns and cities in the UK, Emsworth was suffering from the austerity measures that forced local councils to cut back on spending. Sheila Morris, noticed that the town was looking a little neglected with weeds growing abundantly and, due to financial cut backs, there were no flowers in the town centre planters which seemed in stark contrast to neighbouring towns like Havant and Chichester.

Sheila set about rectifying this problem by recruiting residents of Emsworth to form a group of volunteers who also felt passionately that the town would look better with some flower displays. Early meetings with Councillors and the Emsworth Residents Association (now the ERF) convinced Sheila that she would be keenly supported, but the LA was short of funds to offer.

Sheila has headed up this voluntary organisation ever since and with the financial donations of the Local Authority, local businesses, ERA/ERF, personal donations, etc Emsworth town has had beautiful flower displays that get re-planted every May and October.

This is a true community project and every year we need to raise funds to pay for plants. We simply cannot continue this work without both people giving their time free of charge and the financial donations that we depend upon 100% to buy the plants twice a year.

Sheila will always be the inspiration behind the project, however she is now stepping back and a new team have agreed to step forward to lead the project and ensure that with the help of our volunteers and sponsors we are able to continue to ensure that Emsworth in Bloom continues to make a real impact improving the look and feel of our town.
